About 10 years ago, I went through a "career crisis." I had two small children and was working a job that was OK, but not great. I decided to spend a weekend just focusing on what I wanted to do and what strengths I wanted to use and build upon. After two solid days of solitary work, I walked into my boss's office on Monday morning and quit my job.
After my career epiphany, I obtained certification as a Career Development Facilitator instructor and have used those skills to train and help others develop career and professional development plans. I also do consulting in workforce program development and the use of Web 2.0 tools for individual and organizational growth.
For the past 10 years, I've tried very hard to build a work life around my personal passions and talents. I have a successful freelance consulting business working for clients I like on projects that interest me and that make the most of my strengths. Not that I don't have bad days, but far fewer than I did before.
I still periodically re-visit my career plans and I'm in constant learning/professional development mode. I've realized that it's part of who I am and what I need to be happy.
Blogging has become a huge part of my own personal growth. Right now I'm blogging at
The Bamboo Project, where I write about technology, learning and nonprofits and at
Beyond the Glass Ceiling, where I'm indulging my passion for women and their professional development.
At 44, I'm still figuring out what I want to be when I grow up.

I am unsure if I am on the list, but I have a question about payment. How much is it? Also, where/how can I pay the fee? Finally, is there a carpooling list? I am leaving out of Baltimore and am more than willing to pay my share of gas!
